Orgin and History
A journey started in 1992   has reached a milestone when Carmel Convent English Medium School, Thadiyoor celebrates her Silver Jubilee along with Carmel Convent, her managing institution.

A revisit to those initial days brings back nostalgic memories. Those were the days when Thadiyoor was a typical central Travancore countryside with its
His Grace  Mar Joseph Powathil, the then Archbishop of Changanassery found that the atmosphere was congenial for starting a convent and an English medium school in the area which was badly in need of an academic institution  to impart quality English education to the children. He shared the idea with the council members of the CMC’s Holy Queen’s Provincial House at Changanassery at about the same time
innocent and peace-loving village folks, who always cherished good old values like religious tolerance, mutual co-operation, free social mingling and progressive thinking.
Rev. Fr Jacob Edayalil, the then Vicar of the St. Antony’s Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Thadiyoor Parish and the parishioners  approached the Carmelite Congregation with the same wish. The strange coincidence was acknowledged and a team comprising Rev. Mathew Pulikkaparampil, Rev. Mathew Mattathil, Sr Pius (the then Mother Provincial) and the councillors visited Thadiyoor and inspected many locations. Everywhere, water scarcity was a problem.
But at last they found that the land owned by the Parish at Kolabhagom was suitable for starting the school. The school was primarily intended to realize the social revolution dreamt of by that great visionary.

St Kuriakose Elias, Chavara, the founder of the CMI and the CMC congregations which revolutionized the concept of education in Kerala.

Considering the intense wish of the parishioners and the local public, registration for admission to the nursery classes were started forthwith. An old house near the Edakkad market owned by Mrs. Mariamma Mathew Thadathel was renovated and on 07 May 1992, the sisters temporarily started the convent thereat.
On 01 June 1992, Rev. Fr. Mathew Pulikkaparampil inaugurated the functioning of the lower and upper sections of the Kinder Garten (LKG and UKG) in a temporary shed adjacent to the St Antony’s Parish Church, Thadiyoor. We remember with immense gratitude the invaluable co-operation extended by Rev. Jacob Edayalil and the Oonnukallil and Mekkalloor family-members at that time.
Thanks to the indefatigable efforts of Rev. Sr. Madona (who simultaneously functioned as the Principal of the school and the Mother Superior of the Convent) and her dedicated colleagues, the school made a name for itself and won the confidence of the local people.

The rapid growth in the number of students necessitated the immediate construction of a permanent school building.
On 13 February 1993, Rev. Fr Jacob Edayalil laid the foundation-stone for the school building.
The construction was completed in stages. A portion of the completed building was earmarked for the Convent and the students’ hostel, and the rest for the school.  On 13 may 1998, the new building was consecrated by the then Vicar Rev. Fr George Oonnukallil. At last the sisters got a home of their own.
Words fail to express our gratitude to the Parish Vicars, the local people, the parents, our well-wishers and benefactors who helped us through thick and thin of those initial years by extending their whole-hearted co-operation and support.

But for the dedicated and tireless efforts of Sr. Madona, who endeared herself to the local public with her friendly inter-mingling  with the students and parents, we could not have successfully overcome the initial hiccups and got on to the track of progress.
Her successor Rev. Sr. Lissieux was not far behind with her equally dedicated and determined leadership. Both of them were ably assisted by a committed bunch of sisters and teachers. When we proudly stand at this milestone of the Silver Jubilee, these stalwarts definitely deserve our heart-felt gratitude. Sr. Madona’s relentless efforts to get the CBSE-affiliation for the school, deserves special mention. From 2001-2010, i.e., for about a full decade, Rev. Sr Agnes had been the Principal of the school. The Higher Secondary section of the school got the CBSE- affiliation during her tenure.
During the academic year 2010-’11, Sr Lissa Kurien functioned as the Principal of the school. From 2011to 2013, Rev. Sr Maggie led the school as the Principal. During the 2013-’16 periods, Sr Binitha Maria was in charge of the school as the Principal. In 2014, the school hosted the Revenue District Sahodaya Youth Festival during her tenure
In June 2016, Sr Jane Rose CMC, i.e., yours truly, assumed charge as the Principal of the school. I feel really thankful to God Almighty to be in charge of this prestigious academic institution, as a humble successor to some great leaders, especially when she celebrates the Silver Jubilee of her illustrious existence
The original single block has now spread out into the Carmel Block, the Chavara Block and the St Joseph’s Block, to be ‘a home away from home’ for about one thousand students and staff. Sr. Madona’s and Sr. Agnes’ long term efforts have now blossomed into some brilliant Achievements, with the school consistently achieving cent percent pass in CBSE Class X and Class XII  Board Exams for the past few years.
When we look back, we can see a long line of people who helped us reach the coveted position we are in today. Sri Mathewkutty Vetteerathu  Peace Park ,Sri A. T. Under the divine providence we managed to overcome the initial hiccups of our childhood and adolescence and have reached the prime of our youth. We are proud to say that we have striven our best to do justice to the lofty concepts of education upheld by our great founder Saint Kuriakose Elias, Chavara, by imparting value-based and quality education to the children of the area by the blessings of St Mary of the mount Carmel, the torch of knowledge lit by us has guided thousands of them on the right path to glory and success in life.
Thinking about all our well-wishers and benefactors and the people’s representatives who always co-operated with us, our heart fills with boundless gratitude. The school’s PTA, presently led by Mr. Sujith T. S. has always been a pillar of strength, enabling us to successfully realise all our endeavours. I am immensely indebted to each member of my team of teachers, whose dedication and commitment contributed to all our achievements so far.
Let me conclude by hoping that God Almighty will continue to bless us in our pursuit of excellence, through Mother of Mount Carmel, our Patron and Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, our inimitable founder.
